Gwanghuijeong Beomgye Frozen Pork Belly Review
A Beomgye review of Gwanghuijeong, covering its station-exit location, posted hours, frozen pork belly order, side dishes, self-service refills, kimchi pancake and egg custard service, bibim guksu, and dessert.
Hi, this is Ijjingne. I suddenly wanted pork belly from lunch onward, so after work I went straight to Beomgye. I usually prefer fresh pork belly over frozen, but that day I wanted thin, crispy frozen pork belly. Among many pork belly places in Beomgye, I chose Gwanghuijeong.

Gwanghuijeong is easy to find. When you come up from Beomgye Station Exit 2, it is visible right away on the second floor of the building on the right. The posted hours are 11:00 to 23:00, break time is 15:00 to 17:00, and last order is 22:00.

Order: two portions of frozen pork belly, one portion of bbolsal, doenjang jjigae, and bibim guksu.
There was also a separate lunch menu, so it seemed good for nearby office workers to visit for a meal. After ordering, I looked around and saw that every table was a mother-of-pearl table. The retro feeling was strong.

After ordering, the table was set with scallion salad, leafy wraps, jangajji, dongchimi, sauces, chili, garlic, plus bracken and bean sprouts for grilling. The meat came with old-style sausage, king oyster mushrooms, and enoki mushrooms, so it felt very generous.

Extra food could be taken from the self-service bar. Bracken and bean sprouts were refillable, and I think I went back for them twice. Grilled bracken with pork belly really is a great match. The self bar was also kept very clean.

The full table looked well put together. The essential side dishes were neatly arranged, and even the vegetables tasted fresh.

Since the main dish is meat, we grilled the pork first. I mentioned that the pork belly pieces mostly had the cartilage-attached part, which they had heard was the tastiest part of samgyeopsal. It felt like Gwanghuijeong served the good cuts.

Another highlight was that kimchi pancake and steamed egg came as service. The kimchi pancake was crispy outside and soft inside, with a chewy texture, and the steamed egg was pudding-like and well seasoned. The ordered doenjang jjigae had a lot of tofu and plenty of ingredients.

As we were eating, the bibim guksu arrived. The noodles were chewy like bibim noodles, the tangy sauce coated them well, and mixing in lettuce and seaweed made it even better. I recommend ordering bibim guksu when visiting Gwanghuijeong.

Just as we were getting ready to leave after finishing the meal, dessert was brought out too: crispy rice crackers and a nostalgic Yakult. It was a satisfying finish.

There was a large phrase visible at the front of the restaurant, and I said the whole meal felt warm. The owner was kind, the food was good, and even as someone who usually prefers fresh pork belly, I thought this was the one frozen pork belly place they would revisit.
