Ojukine Ikseon-dong 3rd Branch Spicy Chicken Stew Review
A weekend review of Ojukine 3rd Branch in Jongno and Ikseon-dong, including wait notes, spicy chicken stew, udon noodles, simmering tips, garlic-rich broth, and fried rice.
I visited Ojukine in Jongno 3-ga and Ikseon-dong. It is known as a very famous restaurant, and the wait is long enough that there is even a third branch. I first went to the main branch, but the wait was too long, so I moved to the third branch.

It was inside Ikseon-dong, and after following the map through the alleys, it was not hard to find. The main branch and third branch are fairly close. First-time visitors might wander a little in the alleys.

We took wait tickets at both the main branch and the third branch, and both showed 15 teams. At the third branch, staff said many people had left while waiting, so we sat down and got in after about five minutes. The group before us had three people, and since a two-person table opened first, we seemed to enter ahead of them. This was around 8 PM on a Saturday.

The obvious order was spicy chicken stew. Since there were two of us, we ordered the small size and added udon noodles. I had heard the udon add-on was essential, so I added it right away. Many people also add potato and rice cake.

The food came out almost immediately after ordering. At first there was a lot of broth, and they said the best way to eat it was to let it simmer down. Even before reducing it, I thought it tasted delicious.
Once the stew boiled and the vegetables cooked, they said we could start eating. Because udon noodles can get too soft and stick if left too long, we ate the noodles little by little while letting the broth reduce.

I could see a lot of minced garlic in the broth. It had the kind of flavor Koreans tend to love, and the bone-in chicken was satisfying to eat.

Fried rice was a must at the end. It was a moist style of fried rice and tasted great. The stew was so good with drinks that we each finished a bottle. If you are in Jongno, this is a strong dinner recommendation.
