Today I decided to eat samgyeopsal with a friend in Ilbeonga. There were so many samgyeopsal places in Ilbeonga, and the one we chose was Donmoa Cham Samgyeop. It turned out to be such a value-focused restaurant that I wanted to introduce it right away.

What is really impressive is that they have operated for 27 years at friendly prices and were apparently shown on terrestrial TV three times. As soon as we walked in, the large space was full of people like it was already certified as a good spot. It was a weekday evening, but we still waited just a little. The prices really did seem kind: looking at the menu, pork was generally in the 5,000 won range. How is that possible?

I went with a friend and ordered like this. Grilling the meat, putting the soybean paste stew in the middle, and splitting the naengmyeon and rice in half felt like the obvious move.

Because the meat was inexpensive, I did not expect much from the side dishes. But they came out so well. The vegetables were very fresh, and the seasoning on the side dishes was balanced too. They even served seaweed cold soup, which was a nice touch.

The meat we ordered arrived, and just from looking at it, it seemed like good-quality meat. The note that they measure the proper portion exactly also made it feel trustworthy. I was surprised they could sell fresh, not frozen, meat at this quality for this price.

We grilled the samgyeopsal first, and it was glossy and delicious. Even though the owner was busy, they still paid attention to the grill, which was touching. My friend and I split the onion and garlic in half and grilled them too.

This was the marinated meat, and the seasoning was really tasty. I only ordered one serving because I was worried we might not finish everything, but next time I want to order more marinated meat. I still remember the soft texture and sweet seasoning.

I ate it properly with buchu and went back for two refills. Because it tasted clean, I kept eating more. We also grilled bean sprouts and ate them together.

At the self bar, you can bring as many side dishes and vegetables as you want, so it felt comfortable. The empty space was for Cheongyang chili peppers, and they refilled it quickly.

Lettuce is expensive these days, but look how fresh this was. I think I made about ten wraps.

After eating about half the meat, I ordered naengmyeon. The icy noodles and spicy sauce were exactly my style. For samgyeopsal, bibim naengmyeon is the classic match.

I rolled up the naengmyeon and topped it with samgyeopsal. From this point I started to feel full.

But you cannot skip doenjang jjigae with rice. We finished with that right away.
