Shabu Siktak Pyeongchon: Weeknight Shabu-Shabu Review
A personal review of Shabu Siktak in Pyeongchon Hagwon Street’s food alley, with hours, break time, parking notes, seating details, weekday waiting, and a filling shabu-shabu meal with ssambap and octopus karaage.

After work, I went to Pyeongchon Hagwon Street for a shabu-shabu dinner date with my mom at Shabu Siktak (샤브식탁). We both really like shabu-shabu and have tried quite a few places, but this was our first visit to the Pyeongchon branch. Since the restaurant can have a wait if you arrive late, we headed there as soon as work was over.

The restaurant is located in the food alley of Pyeongchon Hagwon Street. This area has so many restaurants tucked into its side streets, so I was excited before we even sat down. Hours: 11:30–21:00 Break time: 15:00–17:00 Last order: 14:10 and 20:10 Because the break time and last orders are fixed, check the time before visiting. Parking: Parking is available in front of the restaurant for about 3 to 4 cars. We visited at around 6:30 p.m., and all the spaces were empty then, so we parked comfortably. By the time we finished eating, though, the parking was full and there was also a wait.

For the shabu-shabu, we ordered the signature B Siktak for two. Since it was dinner, we also added ssambap and karaage to make the meal a little more filling. I was not in the mood for alcohol, so we did not order any drinks, but I heard this place is known for highballs. Next time, I definitely want to try one.

The sauces were set up like this, and the side dishes were nice too. The sauce with egg yolk was especially good; it had a bit of a Japanese-style sukiyaki sauce feeling. Instructions for how to enjoy the meal are written by the table. Broth and sauces are also prepared so you do not need to ask the staff separately.

There are also two room-style spaces inside, which would be great for a small gathering. They looked like they could fit about 4 to 6 people, and the curtains seemed useful for a more private meal. There are counter seats for solo diners as well, along with comfortable four-person tables.

The food came out very quickly. The shabu-shabu was prepared first, followed by the ssambap and karaage. The side menus were on the cheaper side, so the portions were not huge. Still, I liked being able to try several different things in small amounts.

I tried the octopus karaage with tartar sauce, and it was genuinely crispy and chewy. It was exactly the kind of fried octopus I had imagined.

The ssambap was also really good. Put one round piece of rice on lettuce, add a little ssamjang, wrap it up, and it is just right. It is the perfect side menu when you go out for shabu-shabu but still want a little rice too.

They also added plenty of vegetables. The shabu-shabu portion was definitely not small, and it was just right for a satisfying meal.

There were skewers included, which made it fun to eat, and I liked that I did not have to dig around looking for them. Also, the shabu-shabu broth here was really clean-tasting. I first enjoyed it as it was, and when I wanted a change in flavor, I added a little of the dried chili on the side. It gave the broth a sharp, spicy kick and tasted just right. Be careful not to add too much, because it can get really spicy.

When we came out, the parking was full and there were about 3 to 4 teams waiting. Since this is a place people line up for even on a weekday evening, I recommend making a reservation or visiting a little early. They gave us yogurt when we paid, so we finished the meal with a nice palate cleanser.
