Fresh Tuna at Chamchiwang Kwon Tae-yoon in Gunpo Sanbon
A Sanbon Station Rodeo Street review of Chamchiwang Kwon Tae-yoon, where fresh, not frozen, tuna is sliced right away. Includes hours, seating, parking notes, and the Geumjandi 55,000 won course.

Hi! I finally went out for tuna again after a long time. I love rich, oily sashimi, especially yellowtail and tuna, so when I found a place in Gunpo Sanbon that serves fresh tuna, not frozen tuna, sliced right away, I went to try it.

The restaurant is on Sanbon Station Rodeo Street. It is close to Sanbon Station, about a 3-minute walk. It was easy to find because it is in the commercial building right near Wonkwang University Hospital. Go up to the 3rd floor and you can see it right away. Hours: 17:00–23:00. Closed every Sunday. Parking: parking is not available, so use a nearby public parking lot.

I made a reservation before visiting. They had the table set up for the reserved time, and the window seat was really nice.

There are comfortable counter-style datchi seats, and there are also Japanese tatami-style rooms with horigotatsu tables. It felt like a great place for groups, so it would work well for company dinners or treating someone to a meal.

They have both floor-seating rooms and table rooms, and the space felt roomy and comfortable. If you are coming as a group, reserving in advance seems helpful because the owner prepared the setup with care.

Before the tuna came out, they served appetizers: tuna salad, braised tuna, butter-grilled king oyster mushroom, japchae, and roasted garlic. They also told us in advance that the braised dish tastes best while it is warm.

The roasted garlic was a surprisingly good touch. When the tuna started to feel rich, eating one piece of garlic cleared that heaviness and made the tuna easy to keep eating. Since it was roasted, it was not spicy and tasted good. They also served one piece each of tuna sushi and gimbap per person. The gimbap was good, but the sushi was especially delicious.

After warming up with porridge and eating the appetizers, the tuna arrived. The color looked amazing, and even at a glance it felt fresh. Because it was fresh tuna, it was very soft and melted in the mouth.

They also gave plenty of gim, or dried seaweed. I like wrapping tuna in seaweed, so I think I ate all of it as it was served.

This was my favorite cut. It was a white, fatty part, and it tasted great. I tried it with gim and ginger, and also with clean-tasting aged kimchi, and it melted softly.

We were eating so quickly that we finished the first plate before we knew it. The owner noticed first and came over to refill it. This time, they prepared different cuts and gave us plenty. There was so much that we left some because we were completely full. Based on this visit, it did not feel like there would be any shortage; it seemed like they would keep serving until we asked them to stop.

When they refilled the tuna, they also gave each of us a glass of Yagwanmunju that they made at the restaurant. It was slightly bitter, but not extremely bitter, and it was pleasant. With service like that, the meal felt even more delicious.

While eating the second round of tuna, they served hot dried pollack soup along with shrimp tempura and sweet potato tempura. The tempura batter was really tasty: crisp on the outside, while the inside was soft and pleasantly chewy.

Just when I felt like I was truly about to burst, they said they would prepare the meal course as if to make us burst even more. But once I smelled the albap, there was no way I could skip it. The smell and sound made it impossible not to eat.
The sizzling sound is something you really need to hear. Once you hear it, it is hard to resist. The rice was pressed just enough to become chewy, and the nutty flavor of the seaweed flakes plus the crunchy danmuji made it seriously delicious.

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a tuna restaurant in Gunpo Sanbon. We visited as two people and ordered the Geumjandi 55,000 won course. I was happy with both the price and the overall course. It was my second visit, and I was satisfied both times. If you are looking for tuna near Sanbon Station, this is the place. #GunpoRestaurants #SanbonDongRestaurants #SanbonTuna #SanbonRestaurants #GunpoTuna #GunpoTunaRefills #SanbonTunaRefills #SanbonCompanyDinner #SanbonSashimiRecommendation #SanbonRoomSashimi #SanbonFreshTuna
