Donjanggun Jumeokgogi in Indeogwon: Korean BBQ Review
A visit to Donjanggun Jumeokgogi near Indeogwon Station, known for weekday waits, pork special cuts, doenjang jjageuli rice, slushy soju, and pork skin.
Hello! Today I visited Donjanggun Jumeokgogi (돈장군 주먹고기), a jumeokgogi-style pork BBQ spot in Indeogwon. It is a well-known place that has been around in Indeogwon for a long time, but this was my first visit. As rumored, even on a weekday, waiting in line seemed to be the norm.

The location is close to Indeogwon Station exits 4 and 5. After getting off the subway, it takes about 5 minutes on foot. 📍 Hours 17:00–01:00 Closed every Sunday 📍 Parking Parking is not available at the restaurant. You can use a nearby public parking lot. The most convenient and closest one mentioned here is Gwanyang 2-dong Public Parking Lot, prepaid 7,000 won.

When I visited, it was still on the relaxed side. I arrived right around 6:30 p.m. But from the moment the meat came out and was placed on the grill, it took only about 10 minutes for the place to fill up and for a wait to form. Just thinking that I would have had to wait if I had arrived a little later gave me chills. I was so glad I came straight after work.

What we ordered: Jjolgit-sal Kkodeul-sal Tong hangjeongsal Doenjang jjageuli rice Handmade seasoned pork skin Soju
I wanted to try several types of meat, so I ordered one serving each of three different cuts. Since I eat samgyeopsal and moksal fairly often, I went for the special cuts this time.

I was very happy with the basic side-dish setup too: lettuce, scallion salad, and refreshing dongchimi. The cham sauce also had thinly sliced Cheongyang chili in it, which was completely my style.

One steamed egg is served complimentary. They also provide meljeot so you can let it gently simmer on the grill and eat it with the meat. And the soju came with ice crystals in it. Honestly, that was one of the reasons I came running here. The slushy texture was properly frozen and really impressive. It tasted this good even in winter, so I can only imagine how good it would be in summer.

While eating, I went to the self-service bar to get more vegetables and saw that they were no-pesticide vegetables grown directly by the restaurant. The care put into it was amazing. You can tell even from the photos, but the self-service bar was cleaner and better maintained than any I have seen so far.

The owner brought out the meat and explained each cut.

The owner placed the meat on the grill while explaining it and kindly told us how to cook it. After that, all we had to do was grill it the way we were told. The grill plate did not burn easily, and the meat browned nicely, so it was comfortable to cook even on our own.

Just when I started craving doenjang jjigae while eating the meat, the doenjang jjageuli rice arrived. When it first comes out, it is soaked in broth like this, but as it simmers little by little inside the ttukbaegi pot, it becomes thick and sticky like porridge. One bite of meat plus one bite of jjageuli rice was a perfect combination.

From the left, these are kkodeul-sal, hangjeongsal, and jjolgit-sal. They even explained which direction to cut the meat, so we cut it as instructed and grilled it neatly.

Lettuce, meat, garlic, ssamjang, and Cheongyang chili — there is really nothing more to explain. It is a delicious combination. The lettuce was extremely tender and tasty, so I think I made more ssam wraps than usual that day.

Since we still had some drinks left, we ordered the handmade seasoned pork skin. It comes already seasoned by hand and par-grilled, so you can grill the outside to your preferred level.

I like pork skin to be crispy, so I cooked it quite a bit. I love it when the outside is crisp and the bite is chewy, and this place really does pork skin well too.

Dip it lightly in soybean powder and eat it with Cheongyang chili. It had been a while since I had chewy pork skin like this, and the soju went down very quickly. This is the kind of true local restaurant I want to visit with my parents and bring all my friends to. The side dishes are also delicious, so I strongly recommend it. #IndeogwonFood #IndeogwonRestaurant #IndeogwonPorkSpecialCuts #IndeogwonKoreanBBQ #IndeogwonMeatRestaurant #IndeogwonGroupDining #AnyangKoreanBBQ #AnyangJumeokgogi #AnyangPorkSpecialCuts #IndeogwonGathering
