A weekday dinner review of Wonsi Jjokgalbi near Indeogwon Station in Anyang, with notes on waiting, hours, parking, ribs, and side dishes.

Hello! Today I visited Wonsi Jjokgalbi in Indeogwon. It seems to be one of the hottest spots in Indeogwon, and I guess I was the only one who didn’t know. They even have branch locations. I went this time with friends for a year-end gathering, and it had been so long since I tore into jjokgalbi that it tasted especially good. I highly recommend it for company dinners or group meetups. We visited on a weekday afternoon and went in around 6 PM. There was already a company group dinner happening, so there were not many seats left. Luckily, there was still space for us, but after that there was a short wait. Even on weekdays, a wait can form after 6 PM, so it is good to keep that in mind when you visit.

I visited with three friends, so there were four of us total. Since none of us had eaten dinner, we ordered quite a few side dishes. The sides were honestly all delicious, so I was sad that I did not get to try the old-school lunchbox.

The basic table setting included kimchi, seasoned crunchy chili peppers, pickles, pickled onions, and a hot ttukbaegi fish cake soup. Since a warm soup came as part of the basic side dishes, it was nice to eat together with the jjokgalbi.

The jjokgalbi started with the basic Wonsi jjokgalbi. It came out partially pre-grilled, but you can grill it a little more until it is nicely browned. The seasoned jjokgalbi came out next, but changing the grill was a bit inconvenient, so we finished the Wonsi jjokgalbi first and then grilled the seasoned ribs.

For easy eating, about 80% of the meat was already separated from the bone like this. You can eat it comfortably while still enjoying the fun of pulling meat off the bone. Such a thoughtful touch.

The color of the seasoning was incredible. After finishing the Wonsi jjokgalbi, we changed the grill and started on the seasoned ribs. The seasoning burns easily, so you need to turn the pieces quickly. Since the meat comes off easily, it is not uncomfortable to eat, and it is also easier to manage so it does not burn. They give you one cotton glove and one disposable glove, so you do not need to worry about the heat.

The odolppyeo rice balls were a serious recommendation. They were fairly spicy, with chewy cartilage pieces, and they tasted great. They did not hold together very well, though, so we all just scooped and shared them.

The janchi guksu was also good, with a hot broth. The portion was decent, too. Maybe all the side dishes here are good. Because there were quite a lot of people, the food took a little time to come out, but it was fine because we waited while eating the jjokgalbi.

I could not take a photo of the naengmyeon because we were eating so busily. We wanted to eat it more like a drinking snack, so we cut everything up and scooped it together with the broth. Even the naengmyeon was so good. All the sides were 5,000 won, so note to self: definitely order them with the jjokgalbi.
