Curry Gamjatang at Haengbok Chupungnyeong, Pyeongchon
A review of the curry gamjatang at Haengbok Chupungnyeong Gamjatang near Pyeongchon Station, with notes on the 24-hour hours, Exit 1 access, tender meat, deep broth, and ramen add-on.
Today I’m sharing a curry gamjatang that I tried for the first time and immediately fell for. At Haengbok Chupungnyeong Gamjatang (행복추풍령감자탕) near Pyeongchon Station, they have a specialty menu item called curry gamjatang. A friend recommended it, and as someone who likes curry, it was exactly my taste.

The restaurant is located on Pyeongchon Station Rodeo Street, about a 3-minute walk from Exit 1. The business hours are 24 hours, so you can eat there anytime. It also feels like a good last stop after drinks.
You really need to see it bubbling away as it boils.

Curry gamjatang, small size.
The menu includes four types of gamjatang: Tojong gamjatang, mandu gamjatang, mukeunji gamjatang, and curry gamjatang. For two people, ordering one small size was more than enough. The broth was so good that we added ramen sari too.

The curry aroma is not too strong. It feels like gamjatang with just a light hint of curry. It tasted better after letting it boil down a bit, because the broth became richer and deeper.

I could not resist having somaek with it. I liked that there was plenty of sesame leaf and siraegi, and the generous perilla seed powder made it taste even nuttier.

What I liked most was how well the meat was cooked. The meat came off the bone so easily. I could just lift it with chopsticks and it slipped right off, so I could eat comfortably without having to hold and tear at it.

The broth was too tasty to leave behind, so we added ramen sari right away. A staff member added more broth for us, saying it could become salty.

I did not expect curry and gamjatang to work so well together, but if you like curry, I recommend trying it once. I heard it can be a love-it-or-hate-it dish, but for me it was a definite yes. The neighborhood is a little far for me, but I enjoyed it enough that I would want to visit again.

I saw some visitor reviews saying the service was unfriendly, but I personally did not get that impression. It felt neither especially friendly nor unfriendly. Since there was no problem while eating, I was satisfied and would come back.
