Geunbon Hwaro in Indeogwon: Aged Pork BBQ Review
A personal review of Geunbon Hwaro (근본화로) in Indeogwon, an aged pork BBQ spot about a 5-minute walk from Indeogwon Station Exit 4, with aged samgyeopsal, moksal, service stew, naengmyeon, and cheese kimchi fried rice.

Hello! Today I had really delicious aged meat in Indeogwon. I visited Geunbon Hwaro (근본화로), an aged meat restaurant in Indeogwon, and I was completely satisfied with the atmosphere, taste, and service. I definitely recommend this Korean BBQ spot.

The location is in Indeogwon. It is about a 5-minute walk from Indeogwon Station Exit 4. I also came by subway, and it was easy to find. Parking can be a little difficult, so I recommend taking the subway. Opening hours are listed as 16:00–23:00, and Saturday and Sunday are 11:30–23:00. Since it opens earlier on weekends, lunch is possible then. Parking is available in front of the restaurant, but there are not many spaces, so using a nearby public parking lot seems better.

There was plenty of seating. They had seats that looked good for groups, cozy inner seats, window seats, and more. Since the seating was arranged well, it seemed good for company dinners too. There were a lot of people when I visited, and because there are many offices around Indeogwon, I recommend it as a dinner gathering spot.

I made a reservation before visiting, and the table was already set up right on time. They did not simply hold the seat for us; they prepared it so guests could start eating right away. That is what I call service. It made the meal feel good from the very beginning.

Aged samgyeopsal. Aged moksal. Dessert water naengmyeon. Cheese hot-plate kimchi fried rice.
Geunbon Hwaro in Indeogwon is an aged meat restaurant, so both the samgyeopsal and moksal are served as aged meat. For two people, two servings of samgyeopsal and one serving of moksal felt just right. Since we also had to eat water naengmyeon and fried rice on the side, we ordered only three servings of meat.

I liked the side dishes too. Rather than places that serve a big spread of side dishes you do not end up eating, I prefer restaurants that neatly prepare sides that go well with the meat. There was bracken and kimchi to grill together, plus essentials for meat like perilla leaf pickles, green onion kimchi, and various accompaniments. If anything ran out, they brought more, so it was comfortable to eat.

At Geunbon Hwaro, one kind of stew is served as a service item with the first order. You can choose from doenjang jjigae, kimchi jjigae, or beef radish soup. I chose the classic Korean BBQ choice: doenjang jjigae. But I wondered if this was really a service stew. It had plenty of large pieces of meat, plus tofu, vegetables, and mushrooms. The broth was rich and deep, which really impressed me.

After the stew came out, they set up the meat right away. The set even included the fatty piece for oiling the grill. The meat was lightly seasoned with salt, and I also liked that we could grill various vegetables and mushrooms together.

We grilled a full plate properly. The owner came around and checked on things from time to time. They also brought out a metal tray so the meat could be kept warm without burning. Very nice.

We also took care of the alcohol that goes so well with samgyeopsal. I was in the mood for cola, so I ordered that and asked for an ice cup because I wanted it with ice. They gave it to me in a pretty highball glass, so even the cola tasted better.

After grilling the meat well, we also grilled bracken and kimchi around the outer part of the grill. The outside area was not too hot, so they cooked well without burning.

The lettuce at Geunbon Hwaro was also good. It was very tender, so it was perfect for wrapping meat. There was pickled chili among the side dishes, and it went even better with the meat than eating it with plain Cheongyang chili.

After finishing one round, we put the remaining meat on the grill too. The grill was perfect for cooking meat, kimchi, and vegetables together, so it was convenient to keep grilling while eating. Maybe because it was aged meat, it tasted fresh and juicy. For Korean BBQ in Indeogwon, Geunbon Hwaro is the one.

The dessert naengmyeon was more generous than expected. The broth was icy and really refreshing. What do I do if even the naengmyeon here is this good?

I tried the classic combination once, and as expected, water naengmyeon and samgyeopsal are essential together. Even when I was full, I kept eating.

We finished with cheese fried rice: the Korean-style dessert, fried rice, now with cheese on top. That combination was basically the end. If you are looking for a meat restaurant in Indeogwon, this is definitely the place. There was not a single dish that tasted bad, the atmosphere was good, the interior was clean and polished, and the owner was so kind. Just go here. It was seriously delicious. #IndeogwonRestaurants #AnyangRestaurants #GwacheonRestaurants #IndeogwonKoreanBBQ #IndeogwonMeatRestaurant #AnyangKoreanBBQ #IndeogwonSamgyeopsal #IndeogwonBeefRestaurant #IndeogwonAgedMeat #AnyangAgedMeat #IndeogwonCompanyDinner #IndeogwonCompanyDinnerRestaurant
