Daejeon Omunchang Sundae Gukbap Local Review
A local-recommended sundae-gukbap spot in Daejeon’s Jungni-dong, with 24-hour service, parking behind the restaurant, and a memorable outdoor-table meal.
Hello! Today’s review is from a visit to Omunchang Sundae Gukbap when I went to Daejeon. It came strongly recommended by Daejeon locals, so after drinking the night before, I went there for a hangover meal. I thought lunchtime would be crowded, so I went a little early — but there were still a lot of people!

The weather was nice and the sunlight felt great, so I went all in on eating at an outdoor table. On the way in, I saw one outdoor table open, so I sat down and left my things there. When I went inside, every seat was full. At that point, I was just glad I had managed to grab an outdoor spot.

The location is Jungni-dong, Daedeok-gu. It was on a main road, and there seemed to be many furniture shops around it. 📍 Hours 24 hours! If you dislike waiting, I recommend visiting early in the morning, late in the evening, or at dawn. 📍 Parking There is a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant, and there was also a staff member managing the parking. The lot was not extremely large, but it was fine because the attendant organized the cars well.

The basic side dishes came out like this. The kkakdugi was seriously delicious. A scallion-based seasoning was served together, and apparently you add it to the sundae-guk. It had a sharp, fresh bite and was full of scallion aroma — really tasty.

Eating outside made the meal feel even better. It was possible because the weather was not too cold. Having warm food outdoors put me in such a good mood. The bowl in the back is the special size, and the one in front is the regular size.

There was a good amount of sundae and offal inside, and rice had been mixed into the bottom of the soup. I don’t usually prefer rice served this way, though it seemed like they may give it separately if you ask. Since I had come all the way there, I decided to try it as served. The portion was just right, and even the regular size felt a bit large for me.

I seasoned it a little with salted shrimp and added a lot of scallion, and it was genuinely delicious. Omunchang is somewhere I would want to eat again when I come to Daejeon. For breakfast, I had been deciding between Omunchang and Taepyeongso, and I chose Omunchang. Since a spicy, warming bowl is great for a hangover, I felt like I made the right choice. Next time, I’ll try Taepyeongso too.

In any case, eating at the outdoor table had a great atmosphere. If you go to Daejeon, I definitely recommend trying it. I’m going back again!
