JUNG12/24/2024Korea

A review of Wonjo Dwaejijip in Anyang Central Market's sundae gopchang alley, with hours, Tuesday closure, sundae gopchang for two, soju, perilla leaves, perilla powder, and fried rice.

Hello, this is Ijjingne. Today I went back to Anyang Central Market's famous sundae gopchang alley after a long time. I visit this alley often, and today I want to introduce a new favorite spot.

Hours: 9:00-23:00 Regular closure: every Tuesday Among the restaurants in Central Market's sundae gopchang alley, this one is located relatively deeper inside the market. Walk straight in from the entrance.

The interior was clean. Many bars these days decorate with a retro mood, and this place had a similar feeling, but it felt like real retro rather than intentionally styled retro. Maybe the low ceiling adds to it. I like this warm, grandmother's-house kind of feeling.

Sundae gopchang, two servings Soju

I visited with a friend, so we first ordered two servings of sundae gopchang and alcohol. Fried rice would come at the end.

Whenever you come to sundae gopchang alley, every shop gives you one bottled drink. This one was pineapple flavored, and it was tasty. Maybe I still have elementary-school taste, even though I cannot skip soju.

They make it right there after you order. It was ready within about 10 minutes. They added plenty of sundae, gopchang, vegetables, and glass noodles, then piled on perilla leaves at the end and finished with perilla powder. I love perilla leaves and perilla powder, so seeing them add that much made me think this place was the real deal.

Mix the perilla leaves and perilla powder well. My tip is to clear out the center. If you do not, the glass noodles in the middle can stick and may even burn. If you keep the center open, you can eat it warm without it sticking. Low heat is essential.

We could not resist and clinked soju glasses. Both my friend and I are Anyang locals, so we really like sundae gopchang alley. For Anyang people, it is the best drinking food.

Plump sundae and thick-cut gopchang: eating them together is the rule because it is chewy and tasty. It tasted even better wrapped in perilla leaves. At Wonjo Dwaejijip, it felt like they added more perilla powder than other places, so the nutty flavor was stronger.

This is how much I left before making fried rice. You can eat more before frying rice, but I wanted sundae and gopchang in the rice too, so I left a moderate amount and asked for fried rice.

The smell was so good that I watched the owner fry the rice as if I were hypnotized. They fried it neatly with separate grains, and I want to eat it again. The seasoning was just right, and pressing it once more on the hot plate made the bottom crispy and nutty.

For sundae gopchang alley, I strongly recommend Wonjo Dwaejijip. The owner is kind, the portions are generous, and the fried rice is so good. I would absolutely revisit. #AnyangSundaeGopchang #AnyangVegetableGopchang #AnyangDongGathering #MananGuDinner #AnyangFood #AnyangGopchang #AnyangCentralMarketGopchangAlley
