JUNG02/14/2025Korea

A second-round visit to Chulhang, a Sanbon seafood pub near Exit 3, for spicy abalone roe soup, udon noodles, drinks, and a reminder of its makhoe. The source notes 16:00-02:00 hours and easy station access.

Hi, this is Izzingne. Today I visited Chulhang, a makhoe-focused seafood pub in Sanbon. I had tried the makhoe before and remembered it being good, so this time I stopped by as a second round and had abalone roe soup with a glass of soju.

The location is right in front of Sanbon Station Exit 3. It is on the main street, so access is easy. Business hours are 16:00 to 02:00. Since it stays open until 2 a.m., I often think of it when I want seafood late at night or need a second-round spot.

If there is a wait, write your name on the list in front of the restaurant and wait. When I came in summer, it was right after opening but the wait was long, so I remember waiting before eating. They also had seasonal yellowtail, which I really like, so I debated it, but since we came for a light second round after already eating, we kept it simple.

The interior has a street-pocha feel. You can store belongings in the chairs, and the backrests made it comfortable to sit and eat. It is also an Onnuri gift certificate and Gunpo Love Money merchant, so keep that in mind.

They set up the drinks first, so we went straight into somaek.

The basic snacks came out like this. I like seaweed, so I ate it well, and the miyeok was especially tender and tasty.

This is the makhoe I ate before. I only brought the photo because I remembered it, and seeing it made me want it again. They say makhoe tastes best when you mix the pear and cabbage that come with it into the chojang, then eat it with perilla leaves and lettuce. The homemade chojang really was delicious.

The roe soup we ordered arrived. It was packed with roe, and they added plenty of bean sprouts and minari. The broth was hot and seasoned just right, so the drinks went down very easily.

You can see the portion, right? They really serve it overflowing. The owner is generous.

After eating some of the ingredients, we added udon noodles and boiled it again. Udon is a must with this kind of red broth. The noodles soaked up the seasoning well and tasted great.

The abalone was fresh and large. We each ate one, and it had a good chewy bite. The roe seemed endless no matter how much we ate, so the portion was excellent.

This was live octopus served by the owner as a complimentary dish. It was incredibly fresh and so lively that it did not come off the plate easily. The service is good and the ingredients are fresh, so this is a place I visit often. If you are looking for a seafood restaurant in Sanbon, try Chulhang at least once. #SanbonStationRestaurant #SanbonSeafood #SanbonMakhoe #GunpoRestaurant #SanbonSeafoodPub #SanbonLateNightFood
