Hwashan Shabu Dongtan Mala Shabu Review

JUNG06/14/2024Hwaseong

A Dongtan review of Hwashan Shabu in Bansong-dong, covering mala shabu, Chinese glass noodles, bunmoza, fried gyoza, terrace seating, baby chairs, opening hours, and the rich, filling broth.

Hi, this is Ijjingne. I had something to do in Dongtan, so while I was there I visited the Bansong-dong restaurant Hwashan Shabu. I heard the mala shabu was famous here, so I came ready to try it.

Hours are 11:00 to 22:00. Break time is 15:30 to 17:00, and last order is 20:30.

Hwashan Shabu is located in Hwaseong Bansong-dong, the area everyone calls Dongtan. The entrance was bright and pretty, with lighting and cherry blossoms doing all the work. As soon as I saw the front, I said I wanted to sit on the terrace.

Luckily, we visited early in the evening and I could sit in the terrace seat I wanted. Even knowing the flowers were artificial, they were so pretty that I kept looking at them while eating.

The inside of Hwashan Shabu was really spacious. There were partitioned seats, sofa seats, and terrace seats, so choosing where to sit was fun. It was clean and open, without feeling stuffy.

They also had baby chairs ready, which felt thoughtful.

The terrace seat also has chairs outside, so a total of four people can sit there. Just sitting in that kind of seat somehow made me feel better.

The main menu and side menu options were shown like this.

There were so many toppings. If I had not already been getting full, I would have added Chinese glass noodles and bunmoza.

There was also a motsu menu with large intestine, new croquette items, and information about different events. If you join the review event, they give gyoza dumplings as a service. At the end, there were detailed instructions for making porridge yourself, so note that if you visit.

I ordered the Chinese-style mala broth and added fried gyoza dumplings as a side.

Each table already had tableware set up, which was convenient. They also prepared side dishes and porridge ingredients.

Shabu shabu usually comes with kalguksu noodles, but they said Chinese glass noodles and bunmoza pair better with the mala broth, so they changed it. They also asked first if I liked peanut sauce, and I immediately said yes.

Because the gyoza were fried, they were extra crisp and savory. The inside was full of juice and very tasty. This side is a must, and since you can receive it through the review event, try joining if you visit.

At last, the shabu shabu arrived. Eating shabu shabu while looking at cherry blossoms felt almost unreal. The lighting also seemed to make the photos come out prettier.

You just push the meat and vegetables arranged around the outside into the broth in the middle, so it is easy and not messy. Add a little, eat, and add more.

First of all, there was a lot of meat, enough that I wondered whether it was really two servings. The broth already had several kinds of mushrooms and toppings inside, so the portion was very generous.

I also made porridge properly, but I was so full that I left some. That mala flavor still comes to mind, and it went very well with the porridge. Hwaseong restaurants really are different.

If you go to Hwashan Shabu, a Dongtan South Square restaurant, sit on the terrace and relax while looking at the flowers.
