Donghae Ojingeo Bossam in Anyang: Spicy Squid Review
A repeat-visit review of Donghae Ojingeo Bossam in Anyang, known for very spicy squid bossam, mixed stew, icy dongchimi, wraps, parking access, and rice mixed into the sauce.
Hi, this is Izzingne. Today is one of my life restaurants: Donghae Ojingeo Bossam in Anyang. As an Anyang local, I cannot believe I am only introducing it now. I heard it existed even before I was born. It is an old restaurant, but even now there are many people in the evening, so you may have to wait. I think I have visited about 20 times so far.

The location is across from Anyang Station, right next to the public parking lot, inside the alley by the GS25 convenience store. It is inside Anyang Ilbeonga and close to Anyang Station, so access is good. If you bring a car, the public parking lot right in front makes parking easier.

Three portions of squid bossam and one portion of mixed stew.
This is the combination my family always orders. The mixed stew is essential here.

This is the mixed stew. It has squid, ham, tofu, tteok, and other ingredients, so it is called mixed stew. Before it boils it looks white, but because there is seasoning inside, it becomes a red broth once it boils. It is refreshing and very tasty.

I feel this every time I come, but the squid bossam comes out very quickly. A heap of well-blanched radish and bouncy squid are tossed in spicy seasoning, and just looking at it makes my mouth water again.

When it comes out, you first need to cut the squid. The whole squid is served in large pieces, so cut it into bite-size pieces. When it gets too spicy or you want something cool, eat one bowl of the icy dongchimi and that is it. This is why I go.

Wrap squid, radish, and bean sprouts in lettuce and eat it in one bite. Usually they used to serve very tender green lettuce, but on one visit they gave perilla leaves, and this time it was regular lettuce. Personally, green lettuce is the best match with squid bossam, so I hope they have it next time.

Compared with the beginning, there is a lot more liquid now. The blanched radish releases a lot of water, so by the time you finish eating, broth always forms like this. Now mix rice into that sauce and it is over.
Order the mixed stew, eat wraps in between bites of dongchimi, and mix rice into the sauce at the end. That is all you need to do. If you are near Anyang and want extreme spiciness, I highly recommend Donghae Ojingeo Bossam. As someone who loves spicy food, I found it spicier than original Yupdduk, so keep that in mind.
