Shinhwa Susan Anyang: Friday Winter Yellowtail Wait Review
A Friday evening review of Shinhwa Susan in Anyang Central Market during winter yellowtail season, covering how to find it, hours, Samdeok Park parking, waiting, mixed sashimi orders, and spicy fish stew.
Hi! Today I visited Shinhwa Susan, a popular spot in Anyang Central Market. It is one of the places I look for whenever winter yellowtail season comes around, but these days it has become so popular that every visit feels like a battle. It did not used to be like this, which makes me a little sad, haha.

The location is inside Anyang Central Market. Since the market is quite large, it can be hard to find. The easiest way for me was to enter from the entrance in front of Samdeok Park and keep going straight. There is a large food-materials mart in front of Samdeok Park; from there, it felt like about a 3-minute walk straight ahead. These days, if you visit in the afternoon, the long line may actually make it easy to spot, haha. Hours 15:00–22:00 Closed every Monday About a month ago I went on a Wednesday and it happened to be a temporary closure, so I recommend calling before you go. Parking For market parking, public parking is the best option. I recommend Samdeok Park parking because it is the closest, and the fee is very cheap.
It is an underground parking lot, and the fee is low. In the afternoon, there were more open spaces than I expected.

This was the situation at 6 p.m. on a Friday. When I arrived, there were already about 10 teams waiting ahead of us. On Fridays and Saturdays, you should probably expect this level of waiting. Another option is to visit much earlier. There was no system for writing down your name or managing a waitlist. You simply stand in line and go in order when seats open. It was not too cold that day, so it was bearable, but once the weather gets colder, the waiting could be tough.

There are fully outdoor seats and an inner area covered with a tent. The outside looked like it would be very cold, but luckily the inside area had strong heaters and felt warm.

Yellowtail + mullet Spicy fish stew
The menu included different kinds of raw fish, seafood, soups, shrimp, and more, but of course we ordered yellowtail. One note: from around 6 p.m., ordering a plate of only yellowtail was not possible. They were only taking mixed orders such as yellowtail + mullet or yellowtail + flounder.

Even after ordering, we waited quite a while before the sashimi arrived. Compared with before, it felt a little smaller. The plate itself is small, so I tried to take that into account, but it seems a lot has changed as the place has become more popular. The taste was good — though after waiting nearly 2 hours from lining up to receiving the food, just about anything would have tasted good, haha. The steamed egg and corn came out with the food. From other reviews, it looked like they may serve one set per two people, but maybe Fridays and Saturdays are different; for our group of four, we received one of each.

We ordered spicy fish stew and added ramyeon noodles. It was nicely spicy and warming. Because the weather was cold, a hot soup felt absolutely necessary.

Shinhwa Susan is not the kind of place where the sashimi is served in large, thick slices. It may look big in photos, but in real life the plate is about one-hand size, so keep that in mind before you go. Still, I continue to visit because it is a nearby market spot where I can eat fresh seafood. If you go a little early on a weekday, you may be able to sit down right away, so weekdays are the time to aim for.
