Smile Chapssal Kkwabaegi in Anyang Seoksu-dong
A personal stop for old-school doughnuts and twisted kkwabaegi in Seoksu-dong, with salad bread, red bean doughnuts, glutinous rice doughnuts, and a nutty sugar-plus-bean-powder coating.
This is the place I always look for when I suddenly crave old-school doughnuts and kkwabaegi. It is in Seoksu-dong, so I cannot go often, but whenever I have something nearby, I always stop by.

The exterior is so yellow that it is really easy to spot even from far away. It has that instant "oh, that must be it" feeling.

The prices are really kind. Unless you are at a market, it is hard to find prices like this. These days cafe desserts are so expensive, so I feel grateful whenever I see a shop like this.

On the way home with takeout. I could not wait and ate one glutinous rice doughnut on the way.
Kkwabaegi Red bean doughnuts Glutinous rice doughnuts Old-style salad bread
This is what I brought home. No exaggeration at all: my whole family sat down and finished everything right away.

This is my favorite: salad bread. I go there because of this. It is a croquette-style bread split in half, a little oily, with a perfectly crisp outside. Inside is cabbage salad that tastes just like the kind my grandmother used to mix up when I was young.

These are the essential three I always pick at an old-style doughnut shop. Kkwabaegi, red bean doughnuts, and glutinous rice doughnuts. Such a strong combination.

Unlike ordinary doughnut shops that only coat them in sugar, this place uses sugar plus soybean powder. That makes the flavor nuttier, and the combination of doughnuts and soybean powder was so good.

So chewy. You can see how full the inside is with red bean. As someone who loves red bean, I just melt for this.

When I brought the doughnuts home, my mom had already eaten dinner but still told me to bring them over. That reaction makes it fun to bring snacks home. Our family dog also makes a tiny appearance.
I paid for my own bread.
