Kyoto Eung Coffee and Arashiyama Cherry Blossom Review
A Kyoto and Arashiyama travel note with a 250-yen train ride, late-March weather, weekend wait at Eung Coffee, iced Americano, latte, matcha latte, and cherry blossom photo spots.
Hi, this is Ijjingne. I went to Kyoto this time, and from Kyoto to Arashiyama I traveled by train.

The train took about 20 to 30 minutes. It was a memorable ride because it went along tracks, up onto roads, and up hills. It was 250 yen per person, and it felt different from the subways I had taken in Japan. If you sit in the very front car, you can see cherry blossoms through the large front window, so I recommend getting in the front early if you want photos. The ride is only about 20 minutes.

The weather in Kyoto at the end of March was very clear. I needed a long-sleeve outer layer, but during the day it got warm enough to take it off.

I visited Eung Coffee in Kyoto. The line wrapped around the shop, but it was not as long as I expected, so I joined it. It took about 20 minutes to order.

Because I wanted to try several kinds, I ordered an iced Americano, an iced latte, and an iced matcha latte.

Use the cup display to choose your size. For iced drinks, only the large cup was available, while the small cup was only for hot drinks. I wanted to try a small matcha, but all of my drinks ended up being large.

The latte art was so pretty that I briefly considered ordering a hot drink, but the weather was too warm, so I went with iced drinks.

Most people took Eung Coffee to go and drank it by the riverside out front. The seating shown in the photos was paid seating, remembered as around 1,000 yen for 30 minutes, though I was not completely sure. Sitting there did not feel necessary; drinking by the river looked better.

Syrup, sugar cubes, and other add-ons could be picked up here by yourself.

The staff kept saying the matcha latte was no sugar, so I grabbed two sugar cubes. It would have been a mistake not to.

Plain, it tasted like very strong matcha with no sweetness at all. The sugar cubes did not melt right away, so I crushed them with the straw. When I drank the latte, the sugar grains came through, and strangely that made it better. Next time, I would order the matcha latte again and crush sugar cubes into it.

I enjoyed the coffee by the river. The iced Americano tasted like a standard iced Americano, and the latte was nuttier than many others, but I wondered whether it was worth that much of a line. The favorite was the matcha latte with crushed sugar.

My Eung Coffee became unexpectedly popular. Some Chinese tourists asked if they could photograph the coffee, how much it cost, and where it was sold. It was the first time I had seen people take photos of someone else’s coffee.

I also walked around with the Eung Coffee and took photos. Quite a lot of cherry blossoms had bloomed, and almost every path felt like a cherry blossom street.

The cherry blossoms were not especially dense; instead, the branches were long and hung downward. Because the flowers came lower, they worked well for taking photos.

This spot felt like a proper photo zone, with green scenery and a pink sky-like cherry blossom background.

I also looked around the train tracks and walked a lot before heading back.
I went to Chikurin too, but there were so many people that I went for healing and came away drained. Still, Eung Coffee was good, and I especially recommends trying the rich matcha latte.
