Hello! Today I’m introducing a dakgaejang place I tried in Taean. We had to board a boat for cuttlefish and webfoot octopus fishing, so while looking for somewhere to eat lunch beforehand, we found Taean’s Golmok Sikdang (골목식당). I visited because I had heard it was a local favorite.

I visited around 11 a.m. On a Sunday and was able to eat. 📍 Parking I parked along the road in front of the restaurant. It is in an alley, but the road was fairly wide, and other people had also parked there. There was no public parking lot nearby.

Maybe I was just too hungry, but I didn’t even take a photo of the outside. I went straight in and was shown to a seat. But then—everything was already set up at the table. At first I wondered if it was a reserved seat, but when I looked around, every table was set the same way. I guessed it might be because the owner was running the place alone and had prepared the tables in advance. The side dishes were all well seasoned and tasty.

Dakgaejang
I needed a little hangover relief, and I didn’t have time to wait for stew-style dishes, so I skipped those. Since this place was known for dakgaejang, I ordered it to have a simple meal with the side dishes.

It had that warm, old-school countryside restaurant atmosphere. It had been a while since I’d sat at a floor-seating table. Small plates, salt, pepper, wet wipes, and similar items were all placed beside the table, so it was nice not having to call the owner separately for everything.

The dakgaejang came out in under 10 minutes after ordering. I was surprised because the portion was bigger than I expected. It was generously filled with different vegetables, mushrooms, chicken, egg, and more.

The broth was clean, and there were plenty of ingredients, so it was just right for hangover relief. It was also good for filling up properly before getting on the boat. Other reviews said it was tasty without being overly strong, and I agreed that it wasn’t too intense, though I did notice a bit of a seasoning taste. Still, I felt like I had a solid, tasty meal.
