I visited Submarine Studio in Sanbon for both passport photos and a semi-profile photo shoot. The studio is right by Sanbon Station Exit 3 and offered a clean prep area, guided posing, and detailed 1:1 retouching.

Hi! Today I finally went to take new passport photos and profile photos. I took one last year too, and I thought it would be nice to leave one photo like this every year. This time I visited Submarine Studio in Sanbon. I had searched around quite a bit and liked that they seemed to specialize in profile photos, so I made a reservation in advance and went.

The studio is right in front of Sanbon Station Exit 3, so access is excellent. 📍 Hours 10:00–20:00 Sunday: 14:00–20:00 Closed every Wednesday 📍 Parking You can use nearby public parking. Sanbon Station also has a well-set-up underground public parking lot.

The interior felt fresh and cool, just like the name Submarine. It was clean and airy, so I felt good as soon as I walked in. There were cute blue details here and there, and it was fun to look around the decor.

Even the floor was a deep blue, and it was so pretty. 💙 Because I was going for profile photos, I intentionally wore a soft, flowy outfit, and it matched the studio atmosphere perfectly.

My favorite part was the preparation area. The mirror was large and clean. I arrived about 10 minutes before my reservation time because I wanted to touch up my makeup and use a curling iron a bit more.

It was stocked with everything I needed before the shoot: a curling iron, hair dryer, hair rollers, cotton swabs, cotton pads, combs, hair ties, hair clips, hair fixer, and more. What I especially liked was that the curling iron was from VODANA. I use only VODANA at home too, so Submarine really scored full points for good sense. Haha.

After getting ready, the shoot took place in the studio area inside. We started with the comparatively easy passport photo. I was told that for passport photos these days, your ears do not necessarily need to be fully visible as long as your eyebrows are all visible. They took the passport photo neatly according to the required standard. 👍

Next was the semi-profile shoot. I do not have much experience and I get nervous in front of the camera, but the owner showed me several sample poses and carefully checked what kind of mood I wanted, whether there were any features I felt self-conscious about, and which side of my face looked better. They suggested different ideas too, so the shoot was genuinely fun. I thought it might take a long time because I was so awkward, but I loved the very first pose and angle the owner recommended, so I chose it right away and moved on to retouching. lol They adjusted the angle, lighting, and even my expressions in detail along the way, which I think made the photo come out even better.

I waited for a short time in the waiting area while eating a sweet lemon candy. The owner quickly handled the basic retouching and then called me over. This is the most important moment, right?

After adjusting the skin texture, lines, and color tone to a natural level, they showed me the photo and made it easy for me to say what I did not like or what I wanted retouched more. I was touched because they seemed just as serious about the retouching as they were about the shoot. They practically did makeup for the version of me in the photo too: shading, blush, lip color, face contour, and more. It was not overdone, just lightly and naturally refined, and it suited me so well.

This is the spot where you can place your finished photo and take a proof-shot-style commemorative photo. It was decorated perfectly to match the Submarine name, so I took a photo here too.

The result... I am seriously so, so satisfied. When I take next year’s profile photo, I am definitely coming back to Submarine. These days, people go all the way to hot areas like Seongsu or Yeonnam to take proper profile photos, but honestly, why? You can just go to Submarine. After a 1:1 retouching session with an owner who knows exactly what to do, you may end up settling here too. 😁
