Some Scent Perfume Workshop in Ansan Jungang-dong

Hi, this is Ijjingne. Today I visited Some Scent, a newly opened perfume workshop in Ansan Jungang-dong. Even the workshop name feels stylish. I reserved through Naver, and it is 100 percent reservation-only, with one team hosted privately at a time. Cancellation is free until two days before the visit.

It is on the 6th floor of the Central Rock building, and underground parking is available for two hours.

It was so pretty as soon as I walked in. These are the empty bottles and packaging for taking home the perfume you make. You can choose one of five bottle styles, and you can also choose either a white or blue box.

The sheet on the left is filled out before making the perfume. The one on the right is for writing down the scents I like and how many drops of each scent I use while making the perfume. You make two scents in total: one with the scent you want plus the owner's advice and recommendations, and one made exactly how you want. Then you choose the one you like best. You can pay extra and take both.

When I went inside, the scene opened up in front of me. It was my first time at a perfume workshop, and all the perfume bottles were so beautiful. Below them were descriptions of scent types and families.

Doesn't it look neat and clean? The owner said it was styled with a laboratory feel, and it really did make me feel like a researcher.

After a short explanation, the owner gave us a mission: smell all 80 or so scents, choose the ones we liked, and write them down. There was a time limit, but if you could not finish, they gave a little more time. While I was busy smelling and writing, they brought a drink. You could choose orange juice, grape juice, or coffee, and even the cup matched the concept with a beaker shape.

I opened each one a little, smelled it, and wrote it down if I liked it. There were more scents I liked than I expected. I kept reacting as I went: this smells familiar, this one is definitely not for me, and this one is totally my style.

Then it was time to combine the scents I liked into the mood I wanted. I was worried about the blending, but the owner set the number of drops and chose scents from my picks that seemed to go well together, so I could make it without stress. When I could not smell well or felt a headache coming on, smelling coffee beans helped reset my nose.

I numbered the test strips and added scents one by one to make my own perfume. Of the two scents I made, I liked the second one more, so I chose it. While making the second scent freely, I got stuck, but the owner recommended a scent and I added about two drops. It changed into exactly my style, so I stopped there and decided. That professional touch really helped.

After making the scent, it was time to turn it into real perfume. They calculated the ratio based on the number of drops I used, then measured it into a beaker. Each drop mattered, because even adding a little more or less could change the scent.

They put the scent into the bottle I chose and filled the rest with the perfume base on the right. They gave me a chance to try adding it myself, but my hands were shaking, so I gave up and asked the owner to do it.

Once the perfume base is added, it is finished. Then they package it nicely. If you keep the perfume in the refrigerator for two weeks before using it, the alcohol scent from the perfume base fades and the scent you made matures into its own feel. Mine is still sleeping in the refrigerator, and when I checked, tomorrow was exactly two weeks, so I planned to wear it to work.
